WORK 01

Commencement 2021

The Pandemic offered one positive for the photographer in me: an outdoor commencement for the first time in two decades.

WORK 02

Inclusive Playground Opening

This photo is representative of the joy felt by many students with special needs and their advocates during our reveal of the new fully-accessible playground at Turrill Elementary.

WORK 03

Gray School HDR

This is my favorite one-room school house in Lapeer County. This is an HDR image, with 15 images at different exposures merged together.

WORK 04

Grandpa and Grandson

This photo of my son and his grandpa was taken in the early morning. My subjects were about 300 yards from shore.

WORK 05

Friday Night Football

One of my favorite tricks for football photos is using high levels of clarity. I think it really brings out the rough-and-tumble nature of the sport.

WORK 06

Homecoming Queen

This photo captures the uninhibited joy of Emily, who was named Homecoming Queen for Lapeer High School in 2021. What’s even better, is the joy reflected on the faces of the girls who were not chosen.

WORK 07

Truth Matters

I was shooting in the Detroit Science Center, without the aid of a flash, so this photo has a lot of noise. That said, I love the photo because it captures the message of Brother Guy Consolmagno, the Vatican’s lead astronomer. He’s probably the most interesting person I’ve interviewed.

WORK 08

A Mother’s Love

I love this photo. It is the lasting image of the pride and anguish of a mother whose beloved son never made It to graduation. To honor our fallen student and his family, she was asked to lead the procession.

WORK 09

Azalia at FIM

I was in the audience at my daughter’s dance recital at the Flint Institute of Music when I spotted Azalia, whose family attends my church, in one of the other classes. There was no flash allowed, so it is a little noisy, but it is undeniably adorable.

WORK 10

Perfectly Framed

I love the way this photo is framed. You don’t really have to see the young girl’s full face to know she is totally into whatever is being discussed.

WORK 11

Without Peer

I’m not a fan of staging photos, but in this case it made sense. This was for a Flint Journal feature on a racing legend whose grave is about 25 miles east of Flint. The words on the headstone perfectly describe the man, who ultimately died behind the wheel.

WORK 12

Downtown Band

This photo was edited to appear as if it is a painting. Sometimes over-saturating a photo just works.

WORK 13

Kingsley

I took this photo on my favorite golf course, Kingsley Club in northern Michigan. It is an HDR.

WORK 14

Storm Watch

I love how the rays of light just peek over the roof.

WORK 15

Back to Front

I had to work to get this one. This was taken with a 24mm prime lens.

WORK 16

Tunnel Vision

There’s nothing better than natural light on a partly cloudy day at The Big House.

WORK 17

Swingout

Lapeer High School has a tradition dating back 60+ years that brings all graduates downtown for a parade.
